Northern Arizona Antenna Users Lose MeTV 7.2: What the Channel Move Means for Local Viewers and How to Watch

Cord Cutting, News & Updates, Streaming, Tips & Tricks

The Change Has Happened

On September 29, 2025, MeTV in the Phoenix area moved from Nexstar-operated KAZT-TV Channel 7.2 to Weigel O&O Channel 40.1. At the same time, KEJR-LD Channel 40 officially changed its callsign to KMEE-LD, while KMOH-TV in Kingman, AZ became KMEE-TV.

This was a major shift for Arizona television. MeTV’s primary signal is now tied to the low-power Phoenix station (KMEE-LD 40.1) and the Kingman full-power station (KMEE-TV). As a result, Northern Arizona viewers outside of Kingman lost access to MeTV over the air. The Phoenix low-power signal doesn’t reach far beyond the metro area, and the Kingman station has no repeater network to cover Prescott, Flagstaff, Cottonwood, and other surrounding areas.

Why Northern Arizona Viewers Lost Out

For years, fans across Arizona could watch MeTV for free with an antenna. The switch has effectively shut out much of Northern Arizona from free, over-the-air access.

Phoenix coverage shrank because the new KMEE-LD is a low-power station, so its broadcast radius is limited mostly to metro Phoenix. Kingman’s KMEE-TV does carry MeTV, but without repeaters or translators, its signal doesn’t extend into Prescott, Flagstaff, or Sedona. While some speculated that MeTV+ might settle onto subchannel 40.4, this did not solve the broader issue. Without a repeater system, the extra subchannel doesn’t benefit most of Northern Arizona.

For antenna-only households, this has been a disappointment. Viewers lost a beloved free classic TV lineup — from MAS*H to Perry Mason — with no warning beyond the late September announcements.

The Disappointment Is Real

The reaction has been frustration and sadness among loyal viewers. For many, MeTV represented the last real “free TV” option worth watching. Classic shows were always available with no subscription, no hidden costs, and no hassle.

Now, Northern Arizona viewers have been pushed toward streaming or pay-TV bundles to get their MeTV fix. For rural households with weak or expensive internet service, the change feels especially punishing. What was once a free comfort has turned into another paid service.

Streaming Options: How to Keep Watching MeTV and MeTV+

While free over-the-air viewing may be gone for much of Northern Arizona, MeTV and MeTV+ are still widely available through streaming platforms. Here are the main options:

  • Frndly TV – Both MeTV and MeTV+ are available. It’s one of the most affordable live TV services. Frndly TV – MeTV
  • Philo – Includes both MeTV and MeTV+ in its lineup. Philo – MeTV
  • FuboTV – A more expensive service, but added MeTV+ in 2025. FuboTV
  • Sling TV – MeTV is included in the Orange, Blue, and Select packages. MeTV+ availability may vary depending on region. Sling TV
  • DirecTV / DirecTV Stream – Both MeTV and MeTV+ are carried on satellite and streaming packages. DirecTV Stream
  • MeTV App (MeTV Now) – Offers on-demand episodes and some streaming options, but not a full live feed. MeTV App

The most budget-friendly services are Frndly TV and Philo. FuboTV and DirecTV Stream are better for those who want MeTV alongside a wider bundle of channels. Sling TV is a good middle ground.

Always check your ZIP code on MeTV’s official “Where to Watch” page to confirm local availability: MeTV Where to Watch.

What Viewers Should Do

Try a TV rescan if you are in or near Phoenix — you may still be able to pick up KMEE-LD 40.1 with a strong antenna.

If you are in Prescott, Flagstaff, or anywhere outside Kingman, streaming is now the only reliable option. Frndly and Philo are the most affordable choices.

Finally, keep an eye on updates from Weigel Broadcasting. While no additional repeaters have been announced, it’s possible new translators could appear in the future.

Final Word

The change is official, and it already happened. MeTV moved from Channel 7.2 to 40.1 on September 29, and as a result, over-the-air viewers in Northern Arizona were left behind. The disappointment is real — losing free access to beloved shows feels like a gut punch to communities that depended on it.

But MeTV isn’t gone. It has simply moved to streaming and pay-TV. By choosing one of the streaming options above, fans can still enjoy every episode of their favorite classics — and if you need help making the switch, Tuff Techies is here for you.
